If you can’t listen to all of this wonderful 24-part series on the history of Folkways Records and its founder Moses Asch (produced by CKUA radio in Canada), spend some time listening to the three episodes about artist/filmmaker/collector/anthropologist/shaman Harry Smith’s “Anthology of American Folk Music” (originally issued in 1952; reissued by the Smithsonian in 1997). As wonderful as the entire output of Folkways is, Harry Smith really steals the show.
